Girl Boss: Hannah T Spa – January 23, 2018
When I first moved to Charlotte I didn’t know anyone except Dustin. I had only met one of my roommates one time before I moved in. I went through what everyone goes through when they first move… I needed a dentist, a doctor, a new nail place, all my go tos had to be found. When I desperately needed an eyebrow wax, I found Hannah T Spa on Groupon and decided to give her a go and I am so glad I did! Now almost 3 years later, I have loved going to Hannah and she has been so much more than my eyebrow girl!
Hannah has helped me totally transform my skin and the way I think about skin care. On Thursday I’m going to let you guys see exactly what products she has me using and the results of a chemical peel she performed on me!
For now though, let’s get to know Hannah!
What made you want to get into the beauty industry?
I’ve always had a passion for helping women and as I continued to learn more about skin care, I realized I could show women how to look their best while providing the healthiest skin care routine and education available.
How long have you been an esthetician and where did you train?
I completed my training at Aveda Institute in Charlotte and have been an esthetician since 2010, but my education has never stopped. I continue to learn as much as possible for my clients to make sure I can assess and meet everyone’s skin care needs.
What is your favorite part of your job?
The best part of my job is seeing the transformations and results that come from helping and educating my clients on their individual skin care needs. I love when a woman feels the most confident about herself from a few quick tips I’ve shared!
Where do you see Hannah T Spa in 5 years?
I want to continue to impact women and hope to educate as many people as possible! It’s also my dream to continue to build a team of estheticians who work alongside me so I don’t ever have to turn guests away. I now have two other estheticians working for Hannah T spa and a second location to accommodate even more clients.
What advice do you have to give someone wanting to start their own business?
Start a business you’re passionate about! Having your own business takes time, dedication, hard work, and sometimes sacrifice. You have to make sure it’s worth the investment you’re putting in every day.
What is your least favorite part of your job?
Being away from my 3 year old daughter, Lily. Also when my schedule sometimes gets too busy to see as many new clients as I want!
Describe a typical work day for you.
Every day is different, as my days really depend on the clients I’m seeing. I believe in personalizing each visit to the client I’m seeing and creating/crafting the appointment around their needs. I want them to see the best results possible each time they come in for a facial.
Tell me about the skin care options you sell.
I believe in offering the best quality skin care on the market. The brands I carry and use are PCA Skin Care that is FDA approved by the Cancer Foundation and is a pharmaceutical grade skin care line that won best medical skin care. Skin Script is another line I carry and is all organic. I also love the Glo Therapeutic skin care line that is all gluten free and soy free. I love seeing the results on my clients when they are routinely coming in for facials and using these products as a part of their new routine.
What do you think is a common mistake that people are making with their skin?
Using products that contain ingredients that are actually damaging to their skin or using the wrong products for their skin type altogether. One simple recommendation is to avoid alcohol, preservatives, or dyes in any of the products you are using. I also think it can be tricky when you’re buying skin care or makeup from people who are sales professionals, but don’t have the same training and education as a dermatologist or an esthetician.
How do you go about customizing a skin care regimen for a client?
I always need to start with seeing them and asking questions to have a better understanding of their current regime and products. Once we’ve chatted for a few minutes, I can usually tell a lot about where we need to go and the education they’re lacking for their specific skin type. I create a custom facial as we go and use products that best meet their needs
Are chemical peels beneficial for people with sensitive skin?
People who have sensitive skin benefit greatly from the chemical peels I offer! This provides a way to dissolve cellular buildup without causing inflammation or losing water – water loss in your skin is what leads to aging faster. After a Hannah T chemical peel, you won’t leave with red skin and you’ll see amazing results within a week.
What other services do you provide besides facials?Hannah T Spa specializes in eyelash extensions, chemical peels, full body waxing, body wrapping, lash lifts, lash tinting, massage therapy and facials.
Hannah currently runs two locations. The first is in the Sola Salon on Providence Road and her second is in the Aqua Serene Day Spa on Raintree Lane. She recently added to her team and now has Shlisa, Tina, Maya, and Marissa working with her. Shlisa is also an esthetician who specializes in lash extension. Tina specializes in facials and waxing. Mya also specializes in lashes and Marissa is a massage therapist. You can book appointments with any of the girls on the website listed below. Bookings for Marissa and Maya will go through Hannah.
